Yo La Tengo Amy Poehler
Rated 5 out of5 byAlison63 fromLovely show, but pity our poor bottoms! Yo La Tengo will always delight and this was the third time I have seen them in the past 12 monthsThe show was glorious, some old favourites played and well executed. The venue. Never been to EartH before and was so glad I had read the online reviews.
On the way to our choice of seated area we spotted a small number of cushions and grabbed a couple. Essentially you are sitting on wooden stairs for the duration of the show.
Fine, if you are a child, the approaching middle age audience not so fine. Sore back, sore bum, really uncomfortable after the first hour, even with the little cushions and our coats as padding. The bar, situated at the back, was noisy (a problem with the 'quieter' first half of the set) and well over-priced. We didn't bother with drinks.Overall, we had a good time listening to the band, but will not rush back to the venue. Rated 5 out of5 byEazy fromWow! What an experience, spent much of the night with my jaw on the floor.

Been a YLT fan for a good while now, but this was the first chance I’ve had to see them live. They veer between breathy, almost acapella folksy shoegaze numbers and scuzzy, motorik drone-rock.occasionally over the course of one track. Have honestly never seen anything like the treatment main man Ira Kaplan dishes out to his many battered Fenders. His glum, morose facade hides an inner Hendrix/Townsend persona that appears at regular intervals through the evening. Breathtaking stuff, and ably backed by Georgia Hubley (drums) & James McNew (bass/keys).
The three band members swap roles (and instruments) throughout the show, and the whole dynamic of the band swings about like a compass needle in a magnet shop (this, by the way, is a Very Good Thing). I've seen Yo La Tengo 3 times and they are in very, very good form.Musically, always surprising and exciting.massive range from incredible sensitivity, catchy pop, to fabulously anarchic noise. They have been a top band for so long it's remarkable. A beautifully arranged program of sounds.Good venue too for this music; perfect size, well organised, positive crowd and SWG3 is clearly run by proper music lovers. We travelled up from South Wales for this and well worth it. The world is a better place with this band in it. Rated 5 out of5 byJojoH fromAn incredible performance and one of the best gigs I've seen in recent years This was so good from start to finish.
The band showed their full spectrum, from drawn out minimal synth with idiosyncratic vocal harmonies and shimmering cymbals to full frontal hardcore, guitar wall of noise. Yo La Tengo played for over 2 and a half hours including an encore of classic acoustic songs that felt genuine, off the cuff and heart felt, and I was completely mesmerised the whole way through.
