Remington Versa Max Problems

I just got my new 26' VersaMax Synthetic back from Remington for the second time. This time they finally replaced the bent barrel I initially sent it in for. Thank you.The VersaMax arrived with the bolt locked back.

I pushed the bolt release, nothing happened. I pulled back on the bolt handle, nothing happened. I removed the trigger group, pushed and pulled on the bolt handle, still nothing. If I push on the bolt face it won't budge, it is pushed all the way back in the carrier body(or whatever they call it).Right now I am pretty much done with Remington's quality control and repair capabilities although I do really like Remington Customer Service, fast, friendly and professional.

Guess it's the Yin and Yang of Remington.Any suggestions on how to fix this myself? The only thing I can think of is tapping the bolt handle forward with a brass mallet, just worried it will break off at this point. I am also worried the cam pin or something else is broken inside and causing this.Maybe someday I will get to shoot this thing. Please let me know any fixes you may have. I had the same thing wrong with my Versa Max when it came back from warrenty work (recalled hammer replacement). What a pisser, well I called them and they sent me to a local Rem.

Repair shop here in Portland Or. At first they wanted it sent back to the service center in NY. But I was not happy about that as I had already waited three weeks for its return.

I explained how it was the only shotgun I owned and was having so much fun that I considered purchasing a extra trigger assembly so I would not have to be without it should a problem arise again. Well the good news is they called the local repair shop and I had a working gun back the same day. I was told a tap with a brass headed hammer on the bolt face released the frozen bolt assembly. The whole thing didn't sit we'll with me as they failed to provide the platinum service quick 7 day turnaround (this all occurred just before hunting season so the service center was swamped as the reason for the delay).

To my surprise for my inconvenience they offered to send me a complete extra trigger and bolt assembly along with a few tactical parts (bolt release button +) to complete my 26' black synthetic custom tactical rebuild. Jennings White is the man and his customer service management made me proud I bought American.9 months ownership of my first shotgun or shooting any gun and I've scored my 25 straight in trap and as of last week skeet also. Love my Traptical Versa Max and its been flawless. I'll post some pics and a list of mods you 3 gunners might be interested in.Oh yea they also sent me some ammo: )Cheers!

Buddy has a Remington Versa Max that's had issues from day 1. It won't reliably cycle and most issues are ejecting shells. He sent it in and they said they replaced the internals, not sure what though. He got it back and same thing. Pheasant hunting with heavy loads it was pretty much a single shot. Fire, manually eject, fire, manually eject, and so on.

He was showing it to me as he knows I work on my own stuff. Manually cycling with a shell you can hear and feel it dragging. I took it apart and can see the finish in the chamber is peeling.

Anyone seen this before? He's ready to just get rid of it but hoping I can help him out. I noticed the locking lug recess on the outer edge is burred slightly too from cycling but figured I'd work on the chamber issue first, one thing at a time. View QuoteDefinitely peeling.

And I did some more looking at it. With just a shell it slides no problem, no friction of any sorts. The round will fall out if you tip the barrel up. However the bolt with a round under the extractor is toght, tons of friction.

The two locking lugs are peened over on their front edge. The top locking lug has actually worn a groove in the barrel hood, as well as peeing two separate areas.Another issue, my buddy said the stock had something rattling around since he got it back.

I took it apart and there's 3 issue. First of all they must have removed the recoil tube a's you can see they grabbed it with vice grips to take it off. Marred it to he'll then just hit it with cold blue. Then they must have cranked the stock bolt stupid tight as the rattling was the busted pieces of the washer that had shattered.

When I took the stock bolt out, the MIM piece that fits the front end of the stock and has 4 nubs that keep it located straight on the rear of the receiver, basically wrist of the stock, was broken into 4 pieces. You can see where they tried to epoxy or glue it all back together.I'm hoping I can get this thing fixed for him but Id have a hard time ever buying or recommending one from everything I'm seeing. You can see the rolled edge where the lug has been scraping towards the right of the hood on the barrel. Just before the chamber.More wear at the end of the hood with quite a bit of material rolled over.Top lug, right edge wear. Metal edge is rolled towards bolt face. Bottom lug left edge, metal rolled towards bolt face.Shot of the hood where the material is rolled over the edge as well as a pretty good sized groove worn into the hood. Both locking lug recesses are worn with the metal flowing towards the rear of the barrel from lugs during recoil.

These pictures help paint a better picture of what I'm working with. A fellow coworker had issues with his right out of the box as well. He sent it to Remington to be fixed and traded it in as soon as he received it. I called Remington repair service today and the guy was a real winner.

Basically accused me of doing something to it, and why I waited so long to call in for warranty work. I mentioned to him there were FTE issues right out of the box and it was sent in after the end of bird season (it's the only shotgun available to hunt with). Then buddy got it back, and had issues the next season he took it hunting.

It's not like it's a car where you use it every day, bird season is only so long up here and then it gets put away for 10 months until it starts up again. He's sending me an RMA and said they'll take a look at it but the warranty is only 2 years.
